Two people have been taken to Mater Dei hospital after no less than five cars were involved in a crash in Luqa earlier today.

A number of other people were taken to the Kirkop polyclinic for treatment for lesser injuries. The crash occurred at around 3 pm today near the Kirkop tunnel, in the direction of the Malta International Airport roundabout.

A Ford Escort reportedly lost control and hit two other cars that were directly in front of it in the two-lane road, according to police.

Those two cars ended up being thrown forward with the impact and crashing into a further two cars.

Police confirmed with Lovin Malta that the passenger and driver of the Ford Escort were the two people taken to hospital for treatment, with the drivers of the other cars being taken to the polyclinic.
