Two Years On: Jean Paul Sofia’s Mother Pens Emotional Tribute To Her Son
Today marks two years since the tragic death of Jean Paul Sofia, who lost his life at a construction site in Kordin.
His death shook the nation and sparked widespread calls for greater accountability, safety, and justice in Malta’s construction industry.
Jean Paul’s mother, Isabelle Bonnici, took to Facebook to share a powerful and emotional message, reflecting on her son’s life and the ongoing fight for justice in his memory.

“Who would have told me that two years ago, in just a few hours, my life would be buried along with my son’s under a building full of greed for money, lack of accountability, discipline, and responsibility, as well as the corruption that has taken over our country for a long time!!” she wrote.
Isabelle described Jean Paul as a kind-hearted young man who loved life and radiated positivity.
His mother expressed her heartbreak over the loss of her son and her determination to ensure that his death would not be in vain.
In her post, Isabelle vowed to continue her fight against injustices, working to create a safer Malta and prevent other families from enduring the same unimaginable grief that she went through.
“I promise you that your death will NEVER be in vain! My darling, if my love could have saved you, you would have lived forever,” Isabelle ended her heartfelt message.
Earlier this year on Jean Paul’s birthday, a new construction site safety helpline was launched, aiming to improve safety and accountability within the construction sector, providing a vital resource for workers and citizens alike.
Rest in peace Jean Paul.
