UK Airport Security Rules On 100ml Liquids To Be Scrapped Soon

Security rules on liquids and other items such as laptops in hand luggage at the airport are to be scrapped in 2025 in the UK.

The British government has announced that as of June 2024 most UK airports will be installing new high-tech 3D scanners, that show more detailed images of baggage.

This new tech will allow an increase from 100ml litre to two litres as well as allow passengers to pass through security checks without having to remove electronic items from their hand luggage.

Passengers are currently required to remove items such as electronics and liquids from their hand luggage while going through security checks.

Liquids are currently expected to be placed in a plastic bag and have a limit of 100ml per item.

This limit has been in place since November 2006 and was originally used as a temporary measure, after a transplant of a terror plot, where terrorists had planned to take down around seven planes departing from Heathrow, using liquid explosives that had been disguised as soft drinks.

Despite the 100ml liquid rule being phased out across the UK over the coming years, current rules still apply at airports that do not have this new technology in place.
