UK Bureau Director Called ‘Bitch’ As She Put Up Posters Near Makeshift Daphne Caruana Galizia Memorial
A British press freedom chief with Reporters Without Borders was called “bitch” by a group of old men as she attempted to place some posters and images near the makeshift memorial dedicated to Daphne Caruana Galizia in Valletta today.
“Bitch was shouted at me several times by a group of older men sitting on a bench near the Valletta protest memorial for #DaphneCaruanaGalizia, as I put up some posters,” said Rebecca Vincent, who has previously visited the island in relation to the journalist’s murder. “Those who are out here every day get it far worse. They deserve our support – this shouldn’t be the norm.”
Posting about her experience on Twitter, other local activists said they had faced abuse as they attempted to put up images as well.
“We’ve been called worse and you are right in saying it shouldn’t be the norm. I am sorry that they insulted you too.”
