Ukraine’s Eurovision Winners Sell Trophy To Buy Drones And Other Supplies For Military
Ukraine’s Eurovision winners Kalush have raised $900,000 after selling off their trophy, donating it to their country’s military to buy drones.
The Crystal Microphone trophy was sold during a Facebook live auction last night hosted by TV presenter Serhiy Prytula.
The winning bid came in the form of 500 Ethereums by European cryptocurrency exchange WhiteBit, and came alongside a €5 raffle for lead singer Oleh’s signature pink bucket hat. That raffle alone raised an extra $370,000 from more than 56 countries.

The group – which had been fighting off Russian aggressors mere weeks before performing in Turin – donated the hefty amount to the Ukrainian army, which will now use the money to buy three PD-2 unmanned drones. The funds will also be used to buy medical supplies and other crucial items.
Drones are used heavily by Ukrainian and Russian forces, both as weapons and reconnaissance aircraft.
