Valletta Burger Bar Employees Informed Thief How To Steal €49,000 From Their Workplace
Two former employees of the popular Valletta burger restaurant Burgers.Ink have pleaded guilty to informing a thief how to steal thousands of euro from their workplace.
Roxanne Grech, 29, and Ryan Azzopardi, 20, pleaded guilty to being accomplices in the robbery of €49,000, that was carried out by Libyan national Adnan Saed.
They were sentenced to two years imprisonment suspended for four years and ordered not to speak to their former employer or approach the Valletta establishment for three years.
Saed, 26, was arrested yesterday after police gleaned information from CCTV cameras, Valletta’s CVA system and mobile phone data. He pleaded guilty to robbing €49,000 and sending the bulk of it to Libya. Indeed, police have only obtained €11,000 of the stolen cash and are working to recover the rest of it.
Magistrate Gabriella Vella sentenced Saed to 18 months imprisonment and ordered him to serve an additional six months, thanks to a previous suspended sentence he had been given after causing havoc at the Emergency Department.
The robbery also involved taxi driver Kane Grima, who used his vehicle as a getaway car as Saed ran away with the money. He pleaded guilty earlier this week and is awaiting sentencing.
