Valletta Establishments In Six Streets Now Allowed To Keep The Music On Until 1am

Establishments in six main streets in Valletta are now allowed to keep the music on until 1am, up from the regular 11pm.

A legal notice issued this week states that music can be played until 1am in establishments located in Merchants Street, Old Bakery Street, Old Theatre Street, Republic Street, South Street, St. Lucia Street, and Strait Street.

However, they must make sure that the volume is kept at a “moderate level” between the hours of 11pm and 1am.

Establishments will also be allowed to stay open until 2am or any later time as authorised by any other valid permit.

This essentially gives them an exemption from rules that generally ban establishments from playing music by whatever means after 11pm unless they are specifically licensed to play amplified music.

Certain streets in Qawra, Buġibba and Paceville already benefit from this exemption, and Valletta’s inclusion in this list appears to be an acknowledgment from the authorities of the capital’s recent transformation into a popular nightlife hub.
