Valletta Pro-Life Vigil Announced For Wednesday, People Told To Bring Red Candles
A pro-life vigil against Malta’s proposed abortion law will take place outside Parliament on Wednesday as pressure mounts on the government to retract the bill.
Life Network Foundation CEO Miriam Sciberras announced this vigil while closing off a massive protest in Valletta yesterday.
“We will hold a vigil for those babies whose lives will be lost if this law passes,” she said. “Please bring red candles as symbols of the law’s bloody consequences to place outside Parliament.”
The vigil will be held at 5:30pm, which means it will take place while Parliament is in session.
A pro-life protest in Valletta yesterday attracted a huge response, with Life Network estimating the turnout at around 20,000 people.
The bill clarifies that doctors can terminate pregnancies in cases when the mother’s life or health is in danger. However, it has proven controversial given its vague legal definition of “health”, which critics warn could open the backdoor to abortion.
