Valletta Restaurant Bans Children Under 11 From Entering Premises

A mainstay Valletta restaurant has announced it will not be allowing anyone under the age of 11 from entering their premises.

“Due the restaurant restrictions we are kindly advising you that minors under this age will not be accepted. Sorry for any inconvenience caused,” Beati Paoli said in a short statement this week.

Beati Paoli is known for its fresh seafood and unique takes on Italian and Mediterranean style dishes, with a focus on memorable experiences in small settings.

It’s also far from the first eatery to roll out youth restrictions; last year, Bohini, a 14-table cafe in Mġarr, banned under-17s from its premises, saying its the only way for the establishment to move forward.

Though Bohini’s decision had sparked a public debate, Beati Paoli’s announcement was met with a single “prosit” from the public.

Banning children and youths from an eatery can be a double edged sword. On one hand, those who dream of a child-free experience will support and applaud, while parents might take the decision personally.

While it risks alienating some diners, it is also a method for restaurants to regain ownership of their own space.

What do you make of the Valletta mainstay’s decision?
