‘Very Frustrated’ Adrian Delia Says PN Has ‘No Time To Waste’ On Leadership Contests, Urges For A More ‘Humble’ Approach

Amidst dark clouds and accusations of ‘lack of leadership’ within his party, Opposition Leader Adrian Delia told Times Talk that it could very well be Labour’s merits behind the success in elections, and not the PN’s failures.

“It could be Labour is winning, not the PN is losing, and we may not be humble enough to accept this. This is Labour’s time and it could be he (Joseph Muscat) is winning on his merits.”

The PN leader continued to say that, despite a scornful attack on Muscat by the the council of Europe report, people still voted for Labour again, and that’s it high time everyone within the PN understood the implications behind that and rallied together.

“I feel very frustrated because unless we’re going to toe the same line, we’re not going to move forward,” Delia continued. “It’s completely useless if we don’t do it.”

Delia insisted today that he had no intention of stepping down from the responsibility of PN leader, saying doing so would be a waste of time

Although he reiterated the fact that support is a two-way process and solidarity within the party is essential and he is ready to listen to the peers who have not accepted him as a leader, Delia bluntly stated that opting for a leadership race right now would be completely counter-productive.

“We have no time to waste let alone hold a leadership contest that will select someone who will have to start again,” he said.

“I am profoundly trying to work with the MPs I found and most are working but… it takes two to tango”

Delia also admitted the changes he was entrusted to implement have not been done yet, going to say he believed the PN needs to alter their mentality. “It certainly hasn’t been enough,” he said. “But I don’t think the PN needs to go through another leadership campaign.”

After the massive win by the Labour Party in MEP elections by over 42,000 votes, the PN was further decimated in the Local Council elections with a historic defeat in 49 out of the 68 local councils across Malta.

Choosing to instead look ahead, Delia appealed to his party’s detractors to make “a genuine effort to fight one general election together”.
