‘Very Good News For Us’: Daniel Meli’s Mother Welcomes Court Ruling Against Son’s Extradition

Daniel Meli’s mother Lucienne Meli Bellizzi welcomed today’s court judgement which ruled that her son won’t be extradited to the United States.
“This is very good news for us,” she told Lovin Malta.
“The sentence validates our beliefs – trust in Malta’s judiciary system. I thank everyone who expressed support for our cause.”
Meli, who is wanted in the US for allegedly selling malware on the dark web, was arrested in 2024.

The US Justice Department believes Meli had been offering malware products and services for sale to cybercriminals through computer-hacking forums since at least 2012.
Although Meli had initially agreed to extradition, he eventually changed his mind. His mother launched a public campaign which convinced the government to amend the law to allow people who agreed to an extradition 15 days to apply for a review.
His mother has always stressed that while her son should answer for his alleged crimes, he should be tried and carry out his potential sentence in Malta, and not the United States.
