Three years before Daphne’s Caruana Galizia’s murder back in 2014, a plot to kill the journalist was hatched allegedly involving George Degiorgio, Chris Cardona and Vince Muscat.

Muscat, a convicted hitman currently serving a 15 year prison sentence for the assassination of Caruana Galizia, admitted in court today that in 2014 he actually drove Degiorgio to meet Chris Cardona at Portomaso.

Cardona was Economy Minister at the time.

As reported by Times of Malta, Muscat told the court that he had dropped Degiorgio off at the Portomaso roundabout for a meeting with Cardona, who used to live there.

He said that Degiorgio told him afterwards that he met Cardona to settle the sum for the murder of Caruana Galizia, eventually deciding on €150,000.

This isn’t the first time Cardona has been implicated in an alleged plot to kill the journalist.

In 2021, murder middleman, Melvin Theuma had previously testified in court that Cardona had used a friend to pay one of the hitmen €350,000.

Cardona denied any connection to the murder, insisting that he is the victim of a frame-up, but Prime Minister Robert Abela made him step down as PL deputy leader.
