VTubing Provides A Safe, Exciting And Boundary-Pushing Space For Maltese Trans Streamers

When Enniccino first came across VTubing, they could barely believe what the space was offering.

“VTubing has become an amazing outlet for creators to create, network, and do something they love without being honed on their appearance, whether it is pre-op or post-op,” the Maltese Vtuber told Lovin Malta.

VTubing (short for Virtual YouTuber) is a new, virtual form of live streaming, where motion capture technology is used to control an avatar that reflects your real-life face and movements.

Your avatar can be anything your heart desires, creating a new form of a creator – be it a new gender, race, voice or face – that reacts in real-time to their actual real-life movements.

It’s also a safe way to protect a streamers’ personal identity while working in the public eye – and trans creators are finding major benefits to working in this sphere.

“You see, VTubing is a huge plus for trans creators because they can feel 1. safe 2. less gender dysphoric 3. create a character and a body through an avatar that feels comfortable for them without any judgement over their real-life physical experience,” Enniccino said, before breaking down the vibe.

“My tone is very laid back, but I also engage in an assortment of conversations with my audience, have them also create ‘content’ through an assortment of redeems on my streams (such as sound alerts or challenges e.g. exercise challenges if I lose a game). I also have a back and forth playful joke/sarcastic tone and oftentimes I get ‘bullied’ (albeit lovingly) by my chatters, which creates very amusing clips later on.”

Enniccino often plays video games – particularly horror series, such as Silent Hill – as the chat engages and follows along with them.

“I often like bringing up any topics, depending on what was discussed amongst my chat, or a conversation where I do a back and forth with a chatter,” they said. “However, as of late I have been speaking a lot about old horror games compared to recent horror games and how it has changed either for the better or the worst.”

One of the key qualities of this burgeoning scene is the sense of community, with Enniccino shouting out Maltese VTubers Vexsudo, MiraSynth and fishfishing12. Even more impressed by the opportunities VTubing provides to trans creators, Enniccino set up a network thread for Trans Vtubers.

“It became very viral and I spent almost a week making sure to retweet all content coming from every trans creator,” they recounted.

Having started in May 2021, Enniccino is focused on growing this niche channel as VTubing begins to gain more awareness in the mainstream.

“The next step for me, other than getting better equipment that will make VTubing easier and of better quality, would definitely be to grow a bit further and do charity streams for local non-profit organisations,” they said.

“Perhaps by getting outside influences, I will be able to use my networking/traffic to get some finances directed to charity organisations from other countries, starting with animal shelters.”

“I am currently in the process of preparing for my redebut, which includes a new model, new overlays for the stream, and just a fresh new look – please look forward to it!”
