Malta’s Blood Transfusion Services are making an urgent call for O+ blood types, warning there’s a risk certain operations will be suspended if they aren’t able to acquire enough of one of the most common blood types by the end of the day.

O+ blood type holders make up an estimated 38.4% of the total distribution, followed closely by A+ who make up 32.3%.

The National Blood Transfusion’s Facebook page uploaded a video this morning with a caption referencing where the majority of donated blood is used, namely the fight against cancer and recovery.

The caption reads in English: “Given that there is often a low reserve of donated blood, it is worth understanding that most donated blood in Malta is used for treatment with cancer patients”.

Should anyone wish to donate blood, they can do so by calling the NBTS on 8007 4313.

Tag someone with O+ blood in the comments on Facebook and share this article for everyone to see.
