Watch: 13-Year-Old Miraya Borg Brings Home Gold In Italian Kickboxing Championships

A young Maltese fighter has taken home the gold during a championship tournament held in Italy.

Miraya Borg, aged just 13, represented Team Spartans while placing first in the Kick Light Kickboxing category in the Martial Kombat Championships held in Mazara del Vallo, Sicily.

Coached by Simon Chetcuti, Miraya took to social media after her win to thank her team and supporters.

“I really want to thank my coach for this amazing experience! Simon Chetcuti and my family for the support – thanks to the whole team and everyone involved,” Miraya said. 

Miraya performed in the Under 15 category and won via points, bringing forward a mixed technique showcasing technical kicks accompanied by well-timed punches, battling against nationalities from around the world.

Miraya wasn’t the only fighter from Malta battling on foreign turf, with Diego Cassar and Dione Galea also representing the red and white flag among others.

Many of Malta’s fighters are now preparing for the upcoming Battle Of Honour, set to take place on 11th November.

It will include 18 bouts, with kickboxing and K1 represented with Maltese and Italian fighters set to face each other.
