Watch: 200 Sex Workers Applaud Maltese MEP Cyrus Engerer As He Calls For Their Voices To Be Heard
A Maltese MEP addressed a congregation of sex workers in the European Parliament, going off script for a moment to share his personal views on the controversial topic.
“I want to thank all of you who are here today,” he said, looking at the crowd, “because honestly I’ve been fed up of going to meetings on sex workers behind closed doors with only middle-aged men, middle aged white men, straight white men, discussing sex workers, and this is not on.”
Many workers clapped and applauded at this, before Engerer returned to his speech.

Engerer said the European Parliament is for “all citizens” and emphasised that it was essential that workers in the sex industry speak out about the key issues they affect their group.
Though the parliament had regularly discussed the exchange of money for sexual work, it has seldom ever listened to the workers themselves, Engerer continued, saying that this exchange of views between policymakers and sex workers was a “breath of fresh air”.
