Nine-year-old Maltese boy Zac Bugeja took on his biggest challenge yet last Saturday, becoming the youngest person to complete a swim from Filfla to Malta.

What’s more, he completed the six-kilometre swim in less than two and a half hours.

“It was the best swim I have done so far,” the young boy told Times of Malta. “I love swimming and I love the sea, so I enjoyed every moment of it.”

Zac completed the challenge during last Saturday’s second edition of the Ocean Festival, an event aimed at challenging swimmers in open water while raising awareness about the need to protect the seas around us.

The festival was launched by Malta’s very own super-athlete and record-breaking swimmer Neil Agius – who earlier this week confirmed he would be returning with another massive challenge in 2023.

This isn’t Zac’s first big challenge – just last year, he swam over 2km from Mellieħa’s Gerbulin to Slugs Bag in less than an hour and a half.
