A Maltese passenger with airline hosting experience is said to have restrained one of the perpetrators with a restraining belt, following which the captain announced they would be diverting to Bologna, before the flight was eventually they rerouted to Pisa.

Thomas Engerer, a witness onboard said that he grew suspicious when a fellow passenger changed her seats after having been “hit on the head”. Once on the ground the captain reviewed the footage captured by Mr Engerer and all four men were removed from the plane.
