Watch: Abela Accuses Grech Of Implicating Him In Karl Gouder’s Death
Prime Minister Robert Abela sensationally accused Opposition Leader Bernard Grech of personally implicating him in the death of former PN MP Karl Gouder following an informal chat over a coffee.
“A few weeks ago, the Opposition Leader invited me and the PL administration for a coffee at Dar Ċentrali,” he said. “We went, but it was a trap.”
“After we left Dar Ċentrali, Bernard Grech went straight to the inquiring magistrate and said that during the coffee chat, it emerged that I was implicated in a person’s death.”
“A few days ago, I was summoned to testify in front of the inquiring magistrate by the homicide police squad. This just goes to show how cruel and cheap he is and how he is ready to do anything to gain power.”
Following Gouder’s sudden death last September, Abela and other members of the incoming and outgoing PL administration – including Chris Fearne, Ramona Attard, Daniel Micallef and Leonid McKay – visited Dar Ċentrali to sign a condolence book.
While there, Grech invited them for a coffee upwards.
In a statement following the Prime Minister’s remarks, the PN didn’t specify exactly what was said during the meeting or what Grech told the inquiring magistrate.
However, they condemned Abela for exploiting Gouder’s death to “save himself and divert attention from the scandals perpetrated by his Government”.
“Robert Abela’s behaviour is disgusting, dangerous, and irresponsible, aimed solely at deflecting attention from the corruption he and his Ministers are drowning in,” they said.
“Robert Abela is willing to discard anyone and exploit everything and everyone, including the tragic death of the beloved Karl Gouder, to cling to the seat of power. Robert Abela shows no respect for anyone, not even for the deceased and their families.”
“The Partit Nazzjonalista reiterates its full solidarity with the family of the late Karl Gouder and once again urges those of goodwill who have relevant information to pass it directly to the Magistrate leading the inquiry.”
“The PN will not allow Robert Abela to use a tragic death to divert attention from his Government’s scandals.”
to testify in front of the inquiring magistrate by the anti-homicide police squad. So you understand how cruel and cheap he is and ready to do everything to get power. I tell Bernard Grech that he be ashamed of himself.”
