Watch: Abela Rips Into BCRS Scheme – ‘Unacceptable To Queue For 45 Minutes’

It is unacceptable that people have to spend up to three quarters of an hour queueing at BCRS machines to deposit their plastic bottles, Prime Minister Robert Abela warned.
In an interview on ONE yesterday, Abela ripped into the BCRS operators for the way they are handling the scheme and said he wouldn’t even give them a pass mark.
“Although the public is cooperating, the service is nowhere near efficient enough,” he said.
“Is it acceptable that people have to queue for three quarters of an hour to deposit their bottles? Sometimes the machines don’t work and sometimes there are long queues due to a shortage of machines in the country.”
Abela said the government is in discussions with the BCRS operator to implement “major changes” to the scheme and ensure it doesn’t inconvenience the public.
“The operator must roll up his sleeves. We have contractual obligations with them but we aren’t ready to tolerate a situation where the operator is practically indifferent to the realities out there.”
“People have spoken to me about the humiliation of having to wait for so long just because the service isn’t working properly. If there aren’t solutions from the operator’s side, the government will intervene with strength.”
