Watch: Abela Starts Internal Discussions On Whether Malta Should Legalise Euthanasia

Prime Minister Robert Abela confirmed that he has commenced initial internal discussions over whether Malta should legalise euthanasia.
On Popolin last night, Abela said he discussed euthanasia this week with the Youth Advisory Forum, a group of nine young people who provide paid, confidential advice to the Prime Minister.
“These youths are brilliant and they’re giving me so many ideas,” he said. “I discussed euthanasia with the Youth Advisory Forum before I formally discussed it with Cabinet.’
“This is going to be a sensitive but important topic, and I first wanted to see what the Cabinet of youths had to say about it. We will take their ideas on board before putting forward a formal proposal to Cabinet.”
Abela didn’t clarify whether he thinks euthanasia should be legalised or not. Labour’s 2022 manifesto promises a discussion on the topic, stating they are aware of the harsh realities that people with terminal illnesses face.
