PN leader Adrian Delia has threatened to boycott upcoming parliamentary debates, stating that the Opposition no longer recognises the legitimacy of outgoing Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

Referring to Muscat’s pledge to resign as PL leader by 12th January and as Prime Minister in the days to follow, Delia said Muscat has understood nothing.

“He hasn’t understood the peoples anger, what political responsibility means, and the concerns felt by employers and unions,” he said. “He hasn’t understood what that Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination took place because our institutions had collapsed.”

“He hasn’t understand that this tragedy took place because people by his side felt they are above the law, he hasn’t understood that he should never have involved himself in the investigation of people he had spent years protecting.”

Delia noted that Muscat didn’t refer to his former chief of staff Keith Schembri or former minister Konrad Mizzi in his speech, and instead praised the power station project, which the PN leader said was at the heart of the reasons that led to Caruana Galizia’s murder.

“Malta cannot wait another day for Muscat’s resignation. Every day he remains Prime Minister will be another day without justice taking place and appearing to take place.”

“The Opposition will keep working for full justice, to ensure that what happened in Malta will never occur again and to ensure that everyone whose actions or passivity led Malta to the edge of a precipice shoulders responsibility.”

“We no longer recognise Joseph Muscat’s legitimacy and, as of tomorrow, we won’t participate in any activity that includes him as Prime Minister. The Opposition believes that Muscat’s position is untenable and that the damage to Malta must stop now with his immediate resignation.”
