Watch: ‘Għand In-Nanna Kien Agħar Mill-Ħabs’ – Adrian Zammit Opens Up On Childhood Abuse
Local influencer Adrian Zammit has opened up on the physical abuse he experienced during his days at his grandmother’s house when he was still a child.
Speaking as a guest on Jon Mallia’s podcast, Zammit admitted how staying with his grandmother as a child was worse than his time in prison.
During a particular segment of the podcast, Zammit explained how he would be forced to stay alone on a staircase whenever he went to his grandmother’s house. This happened every day over a period of three years.
“So you’re saying that there was a period of three years where you had to stay sitting on a staircase whenever you went to your grandmother’s house?” Mallia asks Zammit.
“Yes, I had no choice,” Zammit says.
“And the consequence if you decided not to obey, was physical abuse?” Mallia continued, with Zammit saying yes.
Upon Mallia asking Zammit what he would stay doing while sitting alone on this staircase, Zammit said that he would stay breaking laundry pegs and digging into the wall to pass the time.
“When I was young, conditions like ADHD weren’t recognised. Before, if you were a disobedient child, it would normally result in physical abuse, and getting locked inside a bedroom,” Zammit continued.
“That was my experience at least – maybe others had it differently.”
“Even when I then went to prison, I told them, I’ve passed through a worse prison than this. But that’s life,” he said.
