Watch: Alex Agius Saliba Wants EU To Act Against Rising Ticket And Flight Prices
Labour MEP and deputy leader Alex Agius Saliba has called for more transparency on the algorithms that dictate dynamic pricing models.
“We have all gone online at some point to purchase a ticket or a service – be it a music concert, a football match, a flight or accommodation,” he said.
“You visit the site to check out the prices but don’t purchase it immediately. You then return to the site a few days later and find out that prices have exploded.”
“These dynamic pricing tactics would be a good thing for consumers if prices go down, but many times they only increase based on the number of requests, particular searches and other data these sites receive.”
Agius Saliba said he submitted a proposal to ensure more transparency to the EU’s Internal Market and Consumer Protection committee.
