Watch: Alex Borg Proposes Tram As Alternative To Metro

As Prime Minister Robert Abela resuscitates a Malta metro proposal, Opposition Leader Alex Borg countered that a tram system would be a more feasible option.
“A tram is easier, costs less and has a lower infrastructural impact than a metro,” Borg said in an interview with Lovin Malta.
“We had already proposed a tram system in the past; it’s easier to be done and would take less time.”
The PN leader pointed out that Malta is one of the only European countries without its own mass transport system and that, while the government published detailed plans for a metro a few years ago, there has been very little tangible progress on the ground.
“[The Prime Minister] always mentions it when an election is coming but so far there’s a massive gap between words and facts. One must see what’s actually going to happen.”
Borg pledged that a future PN government would start working on a mass transportation system from day one as part of a long-term to alleviate Malta’s notorious traffic problems.
