Watch: ‘Alex, Se Tinħaraq’ – Borg On Why He Chose To Contest Despite The Warnings

PN leader hopeful Alex Borg opened up about how several people had urged him not to run for the position as the timing wasn’t ideal for him personally.
Borg said that he “always wanted to become PN leader” and was convinced that he wanted to take the plunge as soon as the opportunity presented itself through Bernard Grech’s resignation.
He claimed that he listened to a number of opinions before taking a final decision because he “wanted to assure that his candidacy was in the best interest of PN and Malta”.
Borg said that some of the opinions and advice he received included warnings like “Alex se tinħaraq” (Alex, you’re going to get burned) or “Let us protect you”.
However, many other people urged him to contest, telling him that the PN needs him at this present moment, and not when it was most convenient for him.
“They were all valid points but my decision was a singular one, which I took the moment I stopped thinking about myself,” he said.
“The easiest thing for me would have been to keep up my regular work and continue obtaining positive personal political results, without listening to the PN’s larger call.”
“However, that isn’t in my nature. If I had ignored the PN in its hour of need, it would have been the greatest betrayal of those people who put their trust and hope in me.”
