Watch: ‘Ara Ommi’ – Ħamrun Bodycam Footage Shows Suspect In Emotional State After Fight
Newly leaked police bodycam footage shows restaurateur Elton Borg in an emotional state after the recent fight with police officers in Ħamrun.
The footage, captured by a police officer who wasn’t involved in the fight, shows a tearful Borg pleading at the officers to “look at his mother”, who had been pepper-sprayed and pushed to the ground during the fight.
His father, who had recently had a heart operation, can also be seen in the footage, asking one of the police officers involved in the fight why he had beaten up his wife.
The fight broke out last month after police officers Clive Mallia and Aidan Demicoli issued a parking ticket to Elton Borg.
Borg had voluntarily emerged from his restaurant to park his car somewhere else, when Mallia commented “So you’re removing it now because you saw us arrive?”.
A tense exchange followed, with Borg telling Mallia to speak to him properly and the police officers demanding he show them his driving license. Borg gave them his license and offered to open his car boot too, prompting Mallia to remark “what a good lawyer you are, ostja”.
The exchange continued and they eventually came to blows, with an all-out street brawl erupting.
Five people – Elton Borg, his wife Erica Borg, his brother Kurt Borg, Redeemer Aquilina and Christian Mansueto – have been charged in connection with the incident and are currently being held in custody after their request for bail was denied.
