Watch: ‘Are We In A Dictatorship?’ – PN MP Blasts Gozo Channel Head’s Sunday Evening Warning
Nationalist MP Alex Borg has called out Gozo Channel chairman Joe Cordina over his recent public appeal to avoid crossing between Malta and Gozo on Sunday evenings due to long queues.
“There is total mismanagement within the Gozo Channel, which is creating an enormous burden on Gozitan students and workers and Maltese crossing over and is also impacting the Gozitan economy,” Borg told a PN rally today.
“And then the chairman comes out and tells you not to cross between 5 and 8pm [on a Sunday]. Are we in a dictatorship? Are you going to say this rather than finding solutions after leading the Gozo Channel for ten years?”
“They have enough money to spend thousands of euro a day on a Gozo Channel office that isn’t even used but then they cannot find money to invest in a new fourth boat. The Labour government has got its priorities wrong.”
Cordina recently appealed to the public to avoid crossing between Malta and Gozo on Sundays between 5pm and 8pm as the MV Nikolaos ferry is currently inoperative due to ongoing maintenance works.
Borg insisted that the Gozo Channel should invest in a completely new ferry rather than the MV Nikolaos, which was built over three decades ago.
“PN governments invested in three completely new ferries while the current government gave us the Nikolaus – a second-hand ferry on which we are spending thousands of euro a day for an inadequate service.”
Should a new ferry be brought in to replace the MV Nikolaos?
