Supporters of the national team flocked to the streets of Spinola Bay in St Julian’s with flags, horns, and chants of victory after Argentina took the 2022 World Cup trophy home.
Argentina won the game after a 3-3 draw led to a penalty shootout finishing at 4-2, making it one of the most exciting and thrilling football games of the decade.
France didn’t give up without a fight, with Kylian Mbappe scoring a hat trick during the match, with two of the goals happening in the same minute. However, Argentina proved to perform better in penalties than the French team.
It’s been 36 years since the Argentian team won the world cup, making it the third time that the country has bagged the trophy, with Diego Maradona being the last to lift it.
