A newborn baby and three women have been rushed to hospital with injuries after a fight broke out between two families in Hamrun, police have confirmed with Lovin Malta.
According to One News, the two families had agreed to challenge each other to a fight in Triq Joseph Abela Scolaro, close to the Maria Assumpta school, and a stone’s throw away from where a relative of one of the families was murdered last year.
This ostensibly means that one of the families was related to Brandon Pace, a 21-year-old man who was stabbed to death during an argument outside his Hamrun residence last year. Two people, Joseph Grech and his son Kurt have been charged with the murder, but have been released on bail.
According to TVM, a piece of metal was used as a weapon and some of the people involved in the fight were drunk.
As the fight escalated, one of the people involved purposely crashed his car into the parked car of one of his rivals and fled the scene. The police, , who were called in at around 6:30pm, arrived at the site en masse and arrested four people. An ambulance and an emergency doctor were also called in to help the baby and the three women – identified as a 26-year-old from Siggiewi and two 19-year-olds from Birgu and Floriana.
