Watch: Behind The Scenes Of The Incredible Six-Storey St Julians Mural Coming To Life

The magical unveiling of a six-storey mural in St Julians turned heads and put the locality on the street art map.
Now, the artists and collaborators have released some footage showing just a glimpse of what went on behind the scenes of this new local landmark.
The mural was inspired by street art across Europe’s major cities and after months of preparation STJ Canvas was launched as a competition looking for a willing artist to complete their artistic vision.
James Micallef Grimaud was eventually tasked with this sprawling blank canvas and he opted to create “a balance between nature and man-made structures through an artistic context”.
Three months, 300 hours and 500 cans of spray paint later – James completed his awe-inspiring artwork which was officially unveiled on the 26th of September.
“In this mural, I decided to take on a more naturalistic approach and made use of some of the most colourful migratory birds which visit Malta yearly. Some of the birds I’ve chosen have also been spotted in the valleys of St Julians and Pembroke,” artist and muralist Micallef Grimaud explained.
