Watch: Ben Camille Confirms ‘Love Island Overs’ Discussions After Show Bombarded With Requests
So was Love Island Malta’s billboard announcing an ‘overs’ edition for older people an April Fool’s joke?
Well, yes and no…
While a Love Island Malta Overs hasn’t actually been confirmed, the show’s producers are discussing the concept internally and with the franchise.
Love Island Malta producer Ben Camille told Lovin Malta that, after the success of Season 1, the show was “bombarded” by requests from people older than the typical Love Island contestant to open the show up to them.
“They keep asking us whether we will make a Love Island for them and whether we have forgotten about them,” he said.
“I feel that kind of vibe contributed to the idea of ‘why not maybe have a Love Island Overs?’, something that has never happened in the world.”
“We have been bombarded with applications for Love Island Overs and I almost feel like it would be a shame not to do something with them. We are discussing it at franchise level so I can’t give away a lot right now but something that started off as a complete joke has the potential to grow so big.”
Whether Love Island Malta Overs will happen or not remains to be seen, but what is certain is that Love Island Malta will launch a second season in May.
Ben said that contestants on the show do actually form meaningful relationships.
“I know it’s going to sound really cliché but the truth is that love really does have no age,” he said.
“I know that there are different ways and means you can find love and I’m sure people come on the show for different reasons, such as to get more likes on their Instagram page, to get more DMs and to get more attention, but everyone who comes out of Love Island seasons across all countries says the same thing, that they didn’t think they would actually form the connections they did, be it love connections or friendships.”
