Watch: Bernard Grech Praises Franco Debono As A ‘Very Valid Person’
Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has praised Franco Debono as a “very valid person” and confirmed he speaks to the former PN MP regularly.
Interviewed by Newsbook today, Grech said that Debono had messaged him on the morning of his recent Shadow Cabinet reshuffle to give him some advice. He said Debono’s advice was very similar to the idea that he already had in mind for his team.
“I told him that we have similar thoughts but that I don’t agree with him on everything.”
Debono, who has been out of frontline politics since 2013, has expressed his desire to contest an election as a PN candidate. While PN has expressed a desire to build bridges with Debono, recently nominating him as Broadcasting Authority chairperson, it has remained coy on whether it will allow him to actually contest a general or European Parliament election.
“Franco Debono is already in the party,” Grech said today. “He is a signed-up member and a councillor and he is already contributing to the party. Everyone belongs to the party but everyone must understand this is a party of the ‘we’ and not the ‘I’, with the focus being on how we will humbly move Malta forward and not how we will progress personally.”
