Watch: Bernard Grech Says Salaries Of Prime Minister, Ministers And MPs Should Increase
Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has come out strongly in favour of increasing politicians’ salaries across the board.
In an interview with Lovin Malta, Grech said that an independent board should be set up to analyse politicians’ salaries and recommend how much they should increase.
“Is it right that a CEO of a private company earns €150,000- €170,000 a year, but then the Prime Minister – who is like the CEO of the country and whose decisions impact that same company – only gets paid €60,000?” he questioned.
“Is it right that ministers and backbenchers have the salaries they do but that they are then topped up by appointing them as chairpersons here and there? Let’s stop taking ourselves for a ride, politicians deserve decent salaries.”
