Watch: Bernard Grech Vents Frustration At Being Sent Down 3.5km Road Diversion

Opposition Leader Bernard Grech vented his frustration at a situation many of us have experienced in recent months – encountering an unexpected road diversion.
Grech said that he and his wife AnneMarie were driving through St Paul’s Bay yesterday when they realised the road they needed to pass through had been blocked off for works.
He said they had to end up driving some 3.5km to reach a destination that would have only been 200 metres without the roadworks.
“There wasn’t any notice ahead of us or any public official to direct the traffic,” he said. “This is the state of the government, which doesn’t have a plan when it comes to our streets.”
“The solution doesn’t lie with PR and buzzwords; we all know now that the government’s PR stunts haven’t solve our traffic problems, just as they haven’t solved our cost of living problems.”
In terms of proposals, Grech called for dedicated bus lanes and a scheme that would give people thousands of euro if they give up their driving license for five years. However, he said the PN is open to suggestions from the public.
“The days of only doing what everything is comfortable doing are over,” he warned. “If we want to progress, we need to be smart.”
