Watch: Borg Challenges Clyde Caruana To Include Two-Children Tax Band In Budget

PN leader Alex Borg has urged Finance Minister Clyde Caruana to include a tax band for parents with two or more children in the upcoming Budget.
Borg’s recent proposal, which will grant parents with multiple children up to €8,500 in tax savings, is very similar to a proposal Caruana made last February to tackle Malta’s low birth rate.
Caruana reminded people that he had originally advocated for this idea back in February, describing Borg’s proposal as nothing but a “cut, copy, paste” of his own idea.
However, Borg insisted that the PN didn’t get this idea from Caruana but from studies conducted by experts into reversing Malta’s low birth rate.
“We are a party that listens but we don’t take advice from the architect of Malta’s greatest problem – that of expanding the population without a plan,” he said.
He claimed that Caruana, in his former role of JobsPlus head, “created” the problem he is now concerned about and that the PN has been proposing solutions before Caruana entered politics.
“One must ask who is copying whom,” he said. “If the proposal has been ready for a while, why has it never been implemented? However, I thank him for showing that our proposal is a good one and I urge him to include it in the next Budget.”
