Watch: Bormla Bastions Turned Dumping Grounds Filled With Trash, Mattresses And So Much Litter

A Bormla resident’s video tour of the dilapidated bastions above St Helen’s Gate shows the state of trash currently taking up the historic space.

Mattresses, entire bags of trash and all sorts of litter have been strewn across the bastions, which started being built back in the 17th century under the Order of Saint John.

The historic area is in a poor state, especially when compared to other bastions and historic sites across Malta, from Mdina to Valletta.

The resident called on authorities to take care of the locality’s precious history – before it is too late.

There are a number of historic fortifications in the area, including the Cottonera Lines, built in the 17th century, and the Santa Margherita Lines, built in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Do you think the bastions should be restored to their former glory?
