A cab driver was filmed tailgating a speeding ambulance responding to an emergency while sifting through traffic in Msida.

Dashcam footage sent to Lovin Malta shows the driver tailing the ambulance in the busy afternoon traffic.

“I nearly ended up crashing into him, narrowly avoiding an accident just because he wanted to overtake a couple of cars,” the person who sent in the video said.

The incident happened yesterday, just before 5pm on the southbound lane of the road leading out of the Msida Skatepark tunnel into the Birkirkara flyovers.

Lovin Malta has passed on the footage to Malta’s police.

The issue of private vehicles tailgating speeding emergency responders is a serious issue that authorities have become more concerned about in recent years.

In an upcoming Lovin Malta mini-documentary, Mater Dei’s ambulance staff opened up about the serious issue of other motorists during an emergency, saying they’ve experienced precarious moments with other drivers before and would actually rank it as one of the biggest problems they face.

Malta’s roads can be dangerous as is – but emergency vehicles having to deal with the added pressure of another vehicle just inches away from them causes unneeded stress and fear for emergency workers trying to save lives.

Have you ever spotted something like this on Malta’s roads?
