Watch: Comedian Charged For Calling Gordon Manché An ‘Asshole’ Prepares For Even Darker Show
Maltese comedian Daniel Xuereb is not letting the court case initiated by the police following a report by pastor Gordon Manché stop him. In fact, he plans on saying “way worse shit” in his upcoming show, Good Friday Bad Jokes.
Xuereb is currently being charged for calling the controversial pastor an “asshole” during a comedy show and in a video taken just after a court sitting he admitted to being “a bit worried”.
“I might be found guilty, or not, I don’t know. But I have to wait till the sentencing on the 16th of May.”
However, when asked what he plans on doing until that fateful day, Xuereb cheekily replied “I guess I’m going to try and get charged for another crime”.
“On 29th March we’re doing our next show, Good Friday Bad Jokes; it’s a dark comedy night and I plan on saying way worse shit than I said to Gordon.”
Xuereb is facing charges in court in front of Magistrate Kevan Azzopardi after he hosted a live stand-up comedy set revolving around Manché’s plea to end anal sex.
He said:
“Manché went on a bit of a rant about how bad anal sex is. We need to listen to what he has to say. I think he’s right. Listen, as Malta’s biggest asshole, I think he knows what he’s talking about.”
Xuereb spoke to Lovin Malta after being initially charged and he admitted to being horrified at how easily Malta’s Police Force could be “weaponised” against a free comment with just one person filing a police report – regardless of how frivolous it is.
Under Maltese law, it is the Maltese police, paid by taxpayer money, that will be taking Xuereb to court and arguing against him, with Manché not really needing to do much beyond file the first report and maintain that he doesn’t want to drop the case. Therefore, unlike a civil case, he won’t be at any kind of financial risk if he loses the case.
Xuereb isn’t the only comedian who was targeted by Manché, Over a year ago, the police filed criminal charges against Matt Bonanno, owner of the satirical website Bis-Serjeta’, for “threatening to bomb” the Christian fellowship group River of Love.
