Two masked men have been caught illegally trapping birds around Fomm ir-Riħ. One of them wore a white mask and the other a camouflage handkerchief around his face. They were both spotted using illegal clap nets used to trap birds.
The men’s masks only came off once they entered a nearby building during their trapping expedition. When they later emerged again, still unmasked, they encountered activists from the Committee Against Bird Slaughter, and were identified and reported.
Around twenty other poachers have been reported over the past three weeks and are expected to face court proceedings the near future.
In a somewhat chilling YouTube video posted by the Committee Against Bird Slaughter, a bunch of different poachers are shown laying and removing traps and other poaching paraphernalia in different parts of Malta and Gozo – all the while scanning their surroundings for any onlookers.
