Watch: Drones Should Enforce Construction Sites, PN MP Ivan J Bartolo Proposes

Nationalist MP Ivan J Bartolo has called for the deployment of drones to enforce rules at construction sites.

Interviewed on Karl Bonaci’s podcast, the outgoing MP warned that while Malta has great laws on paper, their enforcement on the ground is seriously lacking.

“When you send a 27-year-old enforcement officer to a construction site, they can either scare him off or buy his silence,” he said. “These things happen.”

“Instead of sending a young officer to enforce the site, I’d leave them at the PA’s Floriana offices with the AC at their back and a screen in front of them.”

“I’d then deploy a drone to monitor the construction site – drones don’t feel fear and can’t be bribed.”

“The drone would capture images and collect all the necessary data. Today’s sensors can even measure dust pollution.”

This isn’t the first time that Bartolo has proposed drones as an enforcement tactic. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, he had urged the police to deploy drones to help them catch people breaching social distancing rules.
