Watch: Cloud Of Dust Rises From Żabbar Construction Site Into The Air We Breathe

A cloud of dust was seen rising up into the air we breathe from a construction site situated in Żabbar.

The footage was captured and uploaded by ADPD Deputy Chairperson Sandra Gauci, who lamented the lack of health and safety prioritisation in Malta.

“This is an everyday occurrence that is happening not just in this particular place but almost everywhere around us. The number of people with respiratory problems is on the increase together with allergies to people who previously had no issues,” Gauci told Lovin Malta.

“We cannot stay submissive to all sorts of abuse hoping that one day it will end. Our health is in the balance,” she appealed.

“In Malta, there are 27,000 people currently suffering from asthma and respiratory diseases. 67% of Maltese think that the air quality in Malta is not good,” she wrote on social media.

By law, works that are subject to emitting dust should have a protective cover that would keep most of the dust from spreading into the air.

Failure to do so is punishable by law, and if you ever spot something similar, it should be reported to the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) on telephone number 8004 9000 or on 99637508 (Malta) and 99098855 (Gozo) after office hours.
