The traditional Easter Sunday run took a bit of a nasty turn in Birgu this morning, as the statue of the Risen Christ lost an arm after it hit a cable wire in the street. The arm, which was holding a flag, suffered extensive damage as a result of the hit and had to be removed. While the incident put a damper on the celebration, the run continued as planned – missing arm and all. 

The statue was made by famed local artist Salvu Psaila way back in 1883.
