European Parliament President Roberta Metsola appeared on CNN for a whirlwind tour of Brussels and an inside look into the day-to-day work she takes on in her prestigious role – and hinted at her own political future.

Richard Quest, in his trademark boisterous style, joined Metsola as she took him around the seat of European politics – and he took the opportunity to throw in a few fun curveballs as well.

Walking past an embroidered backdrop with her title on it, Quest playfully asked:

“When you see President of the European Parliament, do you sort of think, ‘oh, thats me’?” he asked.

“It takes a bit of getting used to… but now I just walk past it,” Metsola responded.

During the interview, Metsola shared her thoughts on the departures of two other key female figures in politics, New Zealand’s Jacinda Arden and Scotland’s Nicola Sturgeon.

“I will miss Jacinda… I met her a few moths ago, and thought, she’s one of the most amazing women I had ever met,” Metsola said.

Quest then asked if she was disappointed by her resignation.

“You know what I was disappointed about? The reaction to her saying that, that’s what they focused on, instead of her being a twice-elected prime minister who navigated a terror attack with such humility,” Metsola said.

And when Quest said “you’ve got a long way to go” in reference to Metsola’s own political career, Metsola responds with: “I don’t know how many chapters I’ve got left… in politics, expect the unexpected, and be ready for anything.”

Do you think women in high office face double standards?
