“Farmers are angry, farmers are desperate, and something needs to happen on a European level for this to change if we want to have people to continue growing our food.”

These were the words of Għaqda Bdiewa Attivi president Malcolm Borg, who spoke to Lovin Malta moments before farmers left for a 12-kilometre protest convoy drive which is set to come to a head in Floriana.

“After 40 years, the farmers and food producers in Malta have come here to protest the situation that they’re finding themselves in,” Borg continued. “The European Union, through its regulations – present and planned – is putting its farmers and food producers in a situation where they can’t earn a decent living.”

“There are various regulations that are making it impossible for Maltese farmers to remain competitive, and so, we took the roads, like the French, Italians, Germans and Greeks did, to hope that our plea is heard and something is done to rectify the situation,” Borg explained on today’s action.
