Watch: Fight For Jean Paul Sofia ‘Isn’t About PL Or PN. It’s About Coming Together For Justice’
Isabelle Bonnici has opened up about the fight for justice for her son Jean Paul Sofia, ahead of a nationwide vigil tomorrow.
“This isn’t about the Nationalists or the Labour Party, this fight is about coming together for justice,” Bonnici told Abigail Mallia.
“We are fighting so my son wouldn’t have died for nothing. I don’t others to go through this. It is my duty as a mother.”
On Thursday, a motion to open a public inquiry into the death of Jean Paul Sofia, who died under a collapsed construction site in Kordin, failed to pass through parliament.
All 40 Labour MPs unanimously voted against the motion into Bonnici’s untimely death.
While a magisterial inquiry is currently underway, Bonnici insists that a public investigation takes place into the system that led to the fatal tragedy.
“If we would have learned from the tragedy of Miriam Pace, my son might still be here,” she said, tearing up.
Asked about what her son would think, she said he would ask her not to worry about him.
“I think if he was here, he would say Ma, don’t stay worrying about me,” she said.
Still, Bonnici said she has faith in seeing the country come together regardless of their political ties.
“My priority is that no tragedy like this happens again.”
A vigil for JeanPaul Sofia will take place on Monday at 8pm in Castille Square.
People are urged to bring a candle.
