Watch: Final Applause For Robert Arrigo As PN MPs Carry His Coffin At Funeral
There were emotional scenes at the St Julian’s Parish Church this morning as Robert Arrigo was given a final send-off.
Starting with a funeral cortege at Spinola, Arrigo’s coffin was taken upwards to church, accompanied by the San Girgor and San Ġiljan band clubs. His coffin was draped in the colours of the Sliema local council, where Arrigo had served as mayor for nine years before entering Parliament.
At the church, family members, close friends, Sliema Wanderers players and officials and several politicians from both sides of the House – including Prime Minister Robert Abela, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola – gathered to pay their final respects.
And there were emotional scenes as eight PN MPs served as pallbearers, carrying their former colleague into church to loud applause from the congregation.
Arrigo died earlier this week at the age of 67 after a battle with cancer.
