Watch: First MP To Take Up Jean Paul Sofia’s Cause Says History Has Proven His Parents Right

As the nation comes to terms with the findings of the Jean Paul Sofia public inquiry, PN MP Jerome Caruana Cilia has said history has proven his parents Isabelle and John right.

Caruana Cilia was the first MP to call for a public inquiry into Sofia’s death and give a prominent platform to the cries of his mother, Isabelle Bonnici.

Now that the findings are out, the MP said that the difference between a public inquiry and a magisterial inquiry – something the government repeatedly tried to muddy the waters over – is clear.

“The most important thing now is that political responsibility is shouldered,” he told Lovin Malta, quoting a damning part of the inquiry that decries the sequence of events as a “classic comedy of errors” and urges the state to shoulder responsibility.

“The Prime Minister, along with the PL parliamentary group, did their utmost to stop this public inquiry,” he said.

“I was very close to Jean Paul’s relatives, particularly to Isabelle, and I know what she went through these past few months where people personally attacked her simply because she was asking for justice and because she wanted the whole truth.”

“I stress that the Prime Minister should move from words to action and ensure political responsibility is shouldered.”

What action should be taken following the public inquiry?
