Watch: Former PN Sec-Gen Flings ‘Ħallas Ġaħan’ Cheques At Robert Abela Amid Heated Valletta Protest
Former PN secretary general Paul Borg Olivier took his anger out on Robert Abela during last night’s protest, flinging false cheques at the Prime Minister as he walked up to Castille.
As Abela exited Parliament, he was met with loud boos from protesters who had gathered outside to demonstrate against the Vitals-Steward deal, but police barriers had placed significant distance between him and them.
However, as Abela walked up to Castille, he couldn’t avoid Borg Olivier, who had strategically positioned himself behind barriers with a wad of false cheques in his hand.
Footage released by ONE shows the confrontation.
Borg Olivier, a former Valletta mayor who served as PN secretary general between 2008 and 2013, flung false cheques for €400 million made out to Vitals-Steward Healthcare at the Prime Minister.
Some of the cheques had the words “Ħallas Ġaħan” on them.
Although he was visibly uncomfortable, Abela kept his cool and didn’t engage with Borg Olivier as the cheques rained over his head.

This was the most heated protest Abela has faced since he was elected Prime Minister in January 2020, although the crowd numbers were far off the 2019 street protests that followed the arrest of Daphne Caruana Galizia murder suspect Yorgen Fenech and which proceeded the resignation of Abela’s predecessor Joseph Muscat.
Borg Olivier was also involved in the 2019 protests and at one point was filmed getting into a heated confrontation with a One News cameraperson.
