Watch: Fr Colin – ‘Even Jesus Urged God To Spare Him From Suffering’

Fr Colin Apap urged people to sympathise with dying patients who might want to end their suffering.
During a recent discussion about euthanasia on the F Living Show, Fr Apap urged people to avoid catch-all arguments, such as claims that those who want it legalised are “in favour of death”.
“Even Jesus told God to let this cup pass from Him when he was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane,” he pointed out.
“You can’t start off from a theoretical principle when you have a dying person in front of you.
“You can’t speak about how nice it is to help people from hunger to someone who is dying. You can’t preach the values of Jesus on a Mission to dying people. First help them out and then speak to them about other values.”
Fr Colin also referred to Maslow’s famous hierarchy of needs, which states that people’s basic physiological needs must be satisfied before they can start thinking about higher values.
Fr Colin’s intervention on the F Living Show, where he also said that the government wasn’t just elected for Catholics and that it has a mandate to discuss voluntary euthanasia, led to veiled criticism from Archbishop Charles Scicluna.
“The People of God expect to receive light on the truth of the Gospel of Life from their Priests and Bishops,” Scicluna said.
“Pastors who express themselves in favour of euthanasia – a deliberate act to terminate human life before its natural end – fail to honour their duty as Catholic shepherds.”
